Careers Overview

The Boulevard Academy Career Programme Overview:

A young person’s career reflects the progress they make in learning and work. It is part of the vision of The Boulevard Academy that all learners have a planned programme of activities throughout their time at the academy to help prepare them for their 14-19 pathways. This is to ensure that they make the right choices for their futures and to be able to manage their future career aspirations, sustain employment and achieve personal and economic wellbeing throughout their lives.

The programme has been created following best practice guidance from the Department for Education and other expert bodies such as Ofsted and The careers and Enterprise Company.

The Boulevard Academy careers programme sets out to achieve the eight Gatsby Benchmarks for Careers Excellence when delivering the careers programme:

· Gatsby Benchmark 1 – A stable careers programme

· Gatsby Benchmark 2 – Learning from labour market information

· Gatsby Benchmark 3 – Addressing the needs of every pupil

· Gatsby Benchmark 4 – Linking curriculum learning to careers

· Gatsby Benchmark 5 – Encounters with employers and employees

· Gatsby Benchmark 6 – Experiences of workplaces

· Gatsby Benchmark 7 – Encounters with further and higher education

· Gatsby Benchmark 8 – Personal Guidance

Careers Learning Journey

Year 7 & 8

National Careers Week ensures that students access a wide variety of careers information, including apprenticeships, post 16 options, local and national company interaction and opportunities to talk to professionals about their specific careers.
Whole school use of careers directory including local business links.
Women into Manufacturing and Engineering conference days.
Opportunities for further career workshops from visiting professionals.
During Tutor Time activities all students will be following a careers programme delivered by their form tutor.
As part of the curriculum students will be timetabled to enterprise and careers lessons.
Business Breakfasts with local companies.

Year 9

National Careers Week ensures that students access a wide variety of careers information, including apprenticeships, post 16 options, local and national company interaction and opportunities to talk to professionals about their specific careers.
Careers talks – specific to the interests of the Year group in line with data collated from tutor time activities.
Whole school use of careers directory including local business links.
Careers convention event with a minimum of 20 companies, including local and national companies and colleges.
Women into Manufacturing and Engineering conference days.
Opportunities for further career workshops from visiting professionals.
Mentoring Scheme for highlighted students.
Higher Education and Training workshops for highlighted and targeted students (NCOP).
During Tutor Time activities all students will be following a careers programme delivered by their form tutor.

Year 10 & 11

Work Experience Launch Evening.
Support from learning mentors when applying and preparing for Work Experience placements.
Launching and using logonmoveon when preparing personal statements and applications for post 16.
Apprenticeship understanding and investigation at The National Apprenticeship Show.
