Options 2022

Welcome to our online Options Guide. Making the correct decisions about GCSE courses is essential. The correct choices mean the best chances of success in later life.

Please begin by reading the information on how the Options process works and then feel free to watch the short videos about any subject that you or your child are interested in. They will explain what is studied, how it is assessed and the benefits of that choice.

Please also read through the online curriculum guide (see below) – your child will also have been given a paper copy of this by their form tutor.

We will also be holding a virtual Options Evening on Thursday 10th February 2022 at 4pm. The link for this options evening is here:  Year 9 Options Evening Zoom Link

During this meeting we will explain the process in more detail and answer any questions that remain unanswered from the information available here.

Many thanks,

Mr Abel
Head of Year 9

How it works – P Band

If you are a P Band student you will study the following mandatory subjects:

  • English Language
  • English Literature
  • Maths
  • Spanish
  • Combined Science (which counts as 2 GCSEs. If you choose to study Physics, Biology and Chemistry separately you will not study combined and this will count as 3 GCSEs)

You must choose a Humanities subject; either History or Geography or both.

To make up your 8 GCSEs you will need to choose 1 more subject in addition to your Humanities choice (if you choose to study both humanities subjects, you will not pick any further subjects).

Due to potential issues with class sizes, you will need to rank your choices from first choice to your last choice as some students may not receive their first choice of options.

How it works – T Band

  • English Language
  • English Literature
  • Maths
  • Spanish
  • Trilogy: Combined Science (which counts as two GCSEs)

*T Band students do not have the option to study ‘Separate Sciences’

You must choose a Humanities subject; either History or Geography or both.

To make up your 8 GCSEs you will need to choose 1 more subject in addition to your Humanities choice (if you choose to study both humanities subjects, you will not pick any further subjects).

Due to potential issues with class sizes, you will need to rank your choices from first choice to your last choice as some students may not receive their first choice of options.
